GoDaddy is a popular site for buying URL's and it is a good place to do a little research to see if the URL you have chosen is available. After you type in a URL in the search bar it will give you a few other URL ideas.
Try using hyphens in your URL, Shoe-store.com. These are often available and are a good choice in some instances. Using regional words in your URL is another option. Shoes-Hawaii, can be another option that may work for some businesses. Also you can try more descriptive URL's for a better niche market, Affordable-Shoes or Affordable-Womens-Shoes.com.
Do not choose a URL that is too long, that is a bad thing, and try to avoid the .net .biz URL's. Go for the .com name if you can.

Go to your favorite search engine and do some surveillance of your competitors. Use Google, Yahoo, MSN or your favorite search engine and type in a description of the products or services you will providing on your website.
First off you will get an idea of how many other company's are offering the same items. Then you can look at how individual sites describe there product and services. You can checkout the photographs, website design and webpage navigation.

So using a description of your products or services in your URL may be the best way to go if you want customers find your website.

Products and Services - What about the wording that you use to describe your products and services.
